It’s one of the most common questions parents ask. The honest answer is no one can say for certain from age or word count alone.
Two children can have a similar number of words and go on to follow very different paths. That’s why a Speech & Language Therapist looks beyond a single milestone. They consider how your child understands language, how they communicate using words and gestures, their play skills, and how their communication is progressing over time.
That bigger picture gives far more useful information than any one milestone.
Some children do make significant progress without ongoing therapy. Others benefit from extra support. The difficulty is knowing which child will follow which path early on.
The goal isn’t to predict the future. It’s to understand your child’s communication well enough to decide the next step.
